We’ve only just welcomed the new iPhone SE and smaller iPad Pro to Apple’s product portfolio in their last spring news conference, but we didn’t see any update about the MacBook series of products. It’s speculated that Apple won’t release a new MacBook Air this year, but rather focus on the 12 inch MacBook and a thinner MacBook Pro.
The MacBook air is the budget option in Apple’s mobile computer lineup, it features an attractive price point with PCI-express SSD storage and low voltage Intel Core U series processors. Unlike all other laptops in the range, including Apple’s 12″ MacBook – it does not contain a retina display.
There was a rumor circulating that Apple might release 13 and 15 inch MacBook products this year whose design will show more similarity to the 12 inch MacBook. These two products are likely to belong to the MacBook Pro series and will be thinner than the current MacBook Air. If this turns out to be the truth, the MacBook Air lineup might make a disappearance.
If the MacBook Air does eventually get ‘knocked out’ of the Mac lineup, the MacBook product line will only have MacBook and MacBook Pro left, leaving customers with simpler options to choose from. Until now there’s no definite timetable about when a new MacBook will come.
